Nile Cruise Guide: Routes, Full Board and How to Choose

A Nile cruise combines accommodation with travel between the monuments of Upper Egypt. To choose well, compare the sailing route, nights aboard, cabin, sightseeing arrangements and exclusions. A star rating or an attractive photograph is only part of the decision.

Where do Nile cruises go?

For a first Egypt holiday, the familiar choice is the stretch between Aswan and Luxor, with visits around those cities and stops such as Kom Ombo and Edfu. Egypt’s official tourism website describes Nile cruising as a way to explore the ancient sites of southern Egypt.1

Check the actual embarkation and disembarkation cities before arranging flights. A cruise with the same famous sights may travel in the opposite direction, depart on different days or place a visit before boarding rather than during a sailing day.

Three nights or four nights?

When comparing three-night and four-night cruises, check the route, departure day and time allowed for sightseeing. Ask us to confirm the embarkation and disembarkation arrangements for your selected vessel before planning your connections. The final timetable is coordinated with the ship’s sailing program.

Count nights aboard separately from total holiday nights. Our eleven-day Egypt program includes three cruise nights within a ten-night journey. Adding another cruise night changes the balance of the wider route, so ask how it affects Cairo, Luxor or Red Sea time.

What does full board mean on our Nile cruises?

All Nile cruise stays arranged in our published packages are on a full-board basis, including breakfast, lunch and dinner during the cruise stay. Beverages are excluded under our package conditions. Meals at Cairo, Luxor or Hurghada hotels follow their own confirmed arrangements.

Full board is a meal basis, not a description of every service in the holiday. It does not by itself establish which admission tickets, transfers, guided visits or optional activities are included. Check those items individually in the selected itinerary and written quotation.

Private guiding does not mean a private ship

In a private multi-day tour, your Egyptologist and sightseeing transport are dedicated to your own party. On one of our scheduled group tours, the guide and transport serve that departure group. In either case, the cruise vessel and its facilities may be shared with other guests.

If you want exclusive use of a boat, ask specifically for a charter quotation. Do not interpret “private tour” as a promise of an entirely private cruise ship.

How should you compare cruise options?

Start with the named vessel and confirmed cabin category. Ask about bed arrangements, location of the cabin, dining arrangements and any features that matter to you. Request current information rather than relying on a category label that may be used differently by different sellers.

Our Standard and Comfort programs offer different overall accommodation levels, but the exact cruise names are still pending confirmation. We will confirm the vessel and cabin in your personal proposal. Facilities such as balconies, pools and lounges depend on the selected vessel and cabin; check the confirmed details before booking.

Which extras should you check?

Read the admission list carefully, especially if you want special pyramid or tomb interiors. Our Standard and Comfort ten-night programs now include Abu Simbel by land on Day 5, for both private and group travel. Our seven-night base programs do not include that excursion. Check whether a balloon flight or any extra sailing activity is included or optional. Tips, drinks and personal purchases also need to be considered separately from the headline cruise price.

For our ten-night Comfort itinerary, Great Pyramid entry and Tutankhamun’s tomb are included in the wider package. That is a feature of that specific program, not a benefit automatically attached to every cruise cabin or cruise category.

Leave room for the river’s schedule

A cruise timetable has to accommodate navigation, docking and site access. Our recommendation is to avoid building a separate, tightly timed excursion around an assumed mooring time. Ask us to coordinate any extra activity with the confirmed sailing program.

Choose the Nile cruise as part of your complete Egypt itinerary. Share your dates, preferred accommodation level and most important visits, and we can explain how the sailing fits between Cairo and the next part of your journey.
